What's the difference
Between the creation
Of fabulous photographic images
And lost opportunity
Choices, made in seconds
Live on stage
In some dank venue
May have provided
Musical mastery
While an opportunity
To have artfully
Captured divine artistry
Where you and creation
Merge
Calls for your presence
And participation
Somewhere beyond the sidelines
Magical, Magnificence, Miracles
Created for your attention
Made possible by your intention
Extraordinary moments
Missed by ordinary thoughts
Scenes are there
For the seeing
Your heart
Waits
To take you
Step by step
To mastery
Musings,Reflections,Introspection - written through the Heart in hopes of touching Hearts. Purpose - though perhaps a necessary intervention physiologically the "Heart Bypass" I'm suggesting is no way to "live" - perhaps the "heart attack" begins when each turns the opposite way and begins living for and from something other than their heart

Heart Renaissance
I write because my life would be significantly diminished if I stopped. Does this ensure that this will result in a worthwhile contribution? Well I suppose it could be suggested, that no bearing upon the focus or content would be assured. If that were considered from a strictly intellectual stand point it might be true. However, if it were considered that the principal benefactor and generator of the writing, is my heart; then, whether you agree with the content or not; it must then be acknowledged that the energy upheld is that of passion and enthusiasm. I would advocate that everyone find a way to spend some time immersed in their passion. Even if only for a short while each day. In fact, observance of consistent short duration; has the accumulative advantage, over an occasion marathon session.
Is this "indulgent." Absolutely! In the most scrumptious soul-feeding manner. I have been in some breath-taking temples of worship and I would submit though visually stunning and undeniably breath-taking; one might consider that none can, or should be allowed, to overshadow the temple of your own heart.
Consider the impact on the world around us were more people to embrace and live with reverence toward their own heart. Conversely, ask what effect on personal relationships, community, national and international relationships arises, from what might be called, a heart-centered focusing famine.
Mine by some standards is a path of limited academia. The same could be said of time spent in intellectualized religious constructs. If one were to become acquainted with and attendant to, their heart; they would have a lifetime affiliation with a higher learning faculty, and opportunity to live a full immersion in all elements contained throughout the spectrum of spiritual tenets.
I'm not trying to make a case for (or against) seeking "formal education," I would suggest that the hearts involvement should be given first consideration in the choice (not dragged along as an after-thought or begrudging participant). A heart shouldn't just "be in it," - "It," might be allowed then to be defined by the heart. It may be immediately apparent when pondering that notion, the practice (or initiation) of such a way of being, doesn't hinge on commencement, being reliant on widespread approval outside yourself. When you say so, so it begins!
As this "relationship" deepens and expands there would innately be less cause to look to how others are "doing it."
I read .. quite voraciously for the sheer pleasure of it. I don't look to what anyone else is doing as a writer, to develop my writing. I love to read and I love to write. Naturally one feeds the other. Styles of various authors as well as their particular window on the world most certainly have influenced me. How could they not? But I'm not trying to emulate anyone else. Even if I wanted to, how could I? Though for example, there are some very good musical impersonators/cover bands, they are not the original. They bring considerable practice, passion, talent and commitment to what they do. It would be a considerably different journey to foster, expand and stand in being the original them.
This is what I seek for myself .. this is what I advocate for others (while still honouring anyone's choice to say: no thanks!) - the best possible version of one's self! Think about it, better still; allow yourself to feel into it: how good is it really, even if you are the "best,"to be an imitation of someone else?
What potentials of yours are then, left shrivelling on the vine? What "song" of yours, remains unsung? If I have anything to say about it, which obviously I do, more people would step beyond the incremental soul-suicide of believing it necessary to shoulder continually the burden of resignation and obligation, suffering and victimhood.
An interesting perspective I wish to present is that which might occur surprising, unlikely or even implausible. How many people here on planet earth, are waiting, hoping, calling or yearning for, what is imprinted upon yours (and yours only) heart?
I don't dwell in - but I am aware of sadness around the denying and abandonment of my own heart. I disclose that in order to suggest, I then am aware of the pain present for others that do that same thing. That in itself, the suffering created by and toward self, in itself matters ... immensely!
Beyond that, "we" don't suffer alone. Though each can freely choose to continue to repress their heart theirs might not be only, a personal suffering. I'm speaking here from a perspective of interconnection.
When the Hopi prophecy proclaimed "We are the one's we've been waiting for..."
I'm expanding that to ask ... who else is waiting, for us to show up?
And in answering the call of your own heart to realize itself/yourself might you discover that it's not your call at all ... but possibly the call of many and answering their call - might answer questions you don't even realize your asking?!!

All Aboard
On a train bound for known destinations
Without known outcomes
Seems an opportunity
Pregnant with possibility
"Unleash, the imagination"
After all, the sheer romanticism
Of "riding the rails"
Across country
Should be ample
Catalyst to awaken
Creativity, cryogenically frozen
Through chronic adult-ing
What's to prevent then
Oceans of emeralds
Spun into meandering pastures
Trimmed by seams
Of melted golden butter
Running in streams, down the mountain sides
Creating a patch-work quilt on the landscape
There only for joyful expression and artistic merit
In contrast, stones laboriously placed
To symbolize "ownership.."
Tunnels, yester-year's creations
Portals
Inter-worldly interdimensional conduits
Burgeoning possibility
Set into motion
The instant entry & exit become one
Endless sky coifed with cotton candy tresses
Peeking through squinting eyes of blues abyss
Wind-kissed land enlivened by a solar embrace
Shimmer and sing songs of begotten times
The staggering blackness of the midnight sky
Raining from the heavens, gleaming inky black aerial avatars
Iridescent feathers splashing light-splintered arches
Across the heavens, arms outstretched to embrace
What's that?
Next stop... Derry!
Imagine that!!!!!!

Wild Side - Walk
Fresh air and exercise
Considerable consensus
Suggests inestimable value
Held in escrow
Secure in the vault
Of the nearest forest
Is there no distinction
To be made
Of mere movement
Along the avenue
Around the local pitch
Among the throngs
Pushing iron or
Ensconced in
Choreographed carb consumption
Activity regardless of form
Of considerable benefit
The addressing of an alternative call
Is at stake
If you will - the call of the wild
Leave behind
Big screens and techno beats
Walk as far and deep
As you can allow
Until surrounded
By the tallest & the oldest of trees
And maintaining the silence
Listen with all your heart
To the magic tales
Of the wisest among them
Should you happen upon
A river or stream
Take note
It flows in only one direction
Of your own stories
Should they arise
Take counsel
From the pragmatic singularity
Of the flow
Therefore
The story you arrived with
Will be carried off
It's absence will accompany your return

Sound Silenced
Can you, will you
Subdue your haste?
Might you agree?
To reign in,
Even sparingly,
Your contribution,
To the burgeoning cacophony?
Which increasingly,
Threatens like a thief in the night,
To steal silence,
Once held in the darkness.
If an incessant din,
Forced upon the sanctity of silence,
Weren't enough!
Consider the gift of yourself,
Reflected upon the backdrop,
Of golden silence.
It waits patiently,
Peeking through the audible rubble,
To reacquaint you with your dreams.
Will the indiscriminating rabble,
Of your fears,
Ensure distraction remains,
Your parasitic companion?
Bleeding your heart's desire,
While denying the silence?
Subdue your haste?
Might you agree?
To reign in,
Even sparingly,
Your contribution,
To the burgeoning cacophony?
Which increasingly,
Threatens like a thief in the night,

Once held in the darkness.

To Be or Not to Be....
Have you ever noticed that the doom-sayers; if representing non-other than themselves, proclaim: "at least I'm realistic!" What pray tell is so "realistic" about chronic negativity? Before going much further I would like to say that I would prefer to speak in terms of humanity as broadly as I can; therefore even the term "doom-sayer;" in the opening sentence, is unfairly applied in as much as it severely limits anybody that might be caught in that categorization.
It should also be noted that at various places in time I have been made acutely and comprehensively aware of my "shadow;" so I'm neither across the board, operating "in denial" nor practicing Pollyanna-ism or spiritual by-pass. While I'm at it, neither am I trying to replicate myself by planting my head in the sand, nor practice self-proctology.
Do I always immediately see the silver lining? No I do not. Then again, I don't rush to shade every set of circumstances as ... well, shady! The pitfall in pigeon-holing people with such labels as: pessimist, optimist, nay-sayer, defeatist, conspiracy-theorist, even when what they are representing in the moment is truly such; there is every likelihood this is not "who they are," nor how they present all day, every day. Another consideration is that, given the complexity of being human regardless of what is being superficially expressed might only marginally reflect what is going on for that person. The other thing is they might be revealing precisely what is going on and are then being summarily dismissed and discredited.
Words, being symbols, that to some degree have widely agreed upon definitions; in many cases have a broad and varied enough meaning, they can be both ambiguous and can quickly be further limiting and create less, rather than more understanding!
Given there is something approaching an infinite number of different events happening world-wide continually; there will be something approaching never; a time when something that would be widely viewed as "bad," isn't going on.
So then, would the "realistic" response to that be - upon waking I must necessarily then adopt a mood of sadness, grief, despair, despondency? After all it's "such a fucked up world" I must attire myself appropriately. I have felt all these things at times; even for extended periods.
I'm not deriding anyone that due to experiencing clinical/pathological depressions, physical malady. or spiritual malaise often or continually feels poorly.
I have often enough, found myself in collectives of people - some with therapeutic intention, some with "recovery" intention, some with "spiritual intention.." I have been guided, coached, led through multitudes of "fearless moral inventories.." (which not for a moment am I suggesting gives me the moral high-ground) it was a effective and for me, necessary process. Not for the purpose of continual self-hatred and demoralization ... but as was stated further in the same process ... to recognize "the exact nature of my wrongs)... This I must distinguish means to me... how I went wrong ... not that I am innately flawed.
Does this mean that further living and life experience will not reveal to me additional previously unknown attributes? No it does not. What it does mean; to me anyway, is that I can feel good about myself, about life - now! Not at some nebulous point in the future when I have all my shit together. My view is that day may never come; and, I'm going to continue to strive to be the best possible version of myself anyway!
I know there are monumental concerns world-wide - I feel the weight at times. Other times I'm doing what is front of me to do. I also know I can "feel" sadness and still contribute something positive somewhere in the day. Dwelling on what's wrong with the world doesn't change any of it and I don't believe for a moment that it's more realistic. Somehow it's been touted if you choose to focus on anything but tragedy, you're delusional. There are amazing people doing amazing things, all day every day. They might even get feeling down from time to time. They probably feel pretty good sometimes as well. They don't stop doing what they are doing, because the world's such a dismal place. And you can't tell me what they're doing is "unrealistic" because it hasn't vanquished all the world's woes.
For me it's all to easy to completely lose perspective. An awareness of the world doesn't mean an obsession with all that is wrong. I can volunteer regularly to a chosen organization; or just make a contribution in the moment, to make a difference right there on the spot. A refusal to dwell in the darkness is not synonymous with ignoring it. (yes.. it can be) I have been the voice for doing the "shadow work" in the midst of those incessantly touting the love and light. My experience is, the shadow cannot be addressed through denial (it doesn't matter how many verses of Kumbaya you sing). Conversely, that which comprises the layers of the shadow once identified, can be brought to Love and Light.
Those intent on ignoring their shadow, will continue to do so as long as they choose. My lesson was mind your own business, change what you can (in other words .. myself) realize no one invited me to bring my shadow theory, to their "like-minded" gathering (the beautiful thing about that journey was my "need to do so," gave me further access to my own shadow - so all was not lost.
There is nothing misguided about holding a vision of hope. In fact I would suggest that anyone that has ever been involved in ushering in any innovation, social change, personal evolution, had to hold a vision of something else .. sufficiently long enough, that the change was made real.
Along the way ... laugh, cry, scream, jump up & down, pound the floor, sob, holler.... all at once if that's what you are feeling.... none of it affirms or denies the realism of whatever defines for you darkness.
Not for a moment am I suggesting that changing anything, is necessarily easy. I can also say that I have often found it easier to complain, than to do anything about, what I'm complaining about. Fear and resignation have no shortage of spokespeople. I have empathy for those (and myself) when those are the predominant feelings. I don't want to live there. Nor does it make me more realistic or in touch or informed if I do. I might be feeling fear, or sadness even overwhelmed .. but my feelings do make my perspective any more valid than anyone else's.
I write this knowing full well I could most anytime be exhibiting behaviour or expressing feelings that seem to fly in the face of all I've said. I don't care, I'm saying it anyway.
To do what I decide I need to do and how I'm going to view the world, really don't require me to convince anyone of anything. I give myself permission to change my mind and focus my attention, energy and focus where I choose.
That's not denying anything... that is exercising my choice.
It should also be noted that at various places in time I have been made acutely and comprehensively aware of my "shadow;" so I'm neither across the board, operating "in denial" nor practicing Pollyanna-ism or spiritual by-pass. Heart Etchings
As my writing focus has been primarily the reading through of the professionally edited manuscript of my book; with the exception of some spontaneous short poems or expressions on social media, I haven't visited the gaping maw of a blank blog page for quite sometime.
Of those in the moment social media creations, I must say; the joy and ease of their creation is delightful. What can I say of "pure creativity?" I don't know for sure that these, in the moment streams of consciousness constitute purity or creation; but they might be close. Perhaps I can lend some shape to them by describing what they're not? Most certainly not premeditated! They arise either in response to the content I have posted; someone else has posted, or the personal commentary/observation of those that posted them.
In this they arise organically and certainly authentically. I suppose the main distinction is essentially zero contemplation. It just flows. As I sit here and write this, I consider maybe it's not that different than my blog writing. I seldom have a preconceived theme, I just begin. The blog then, might not have even the slightest thematic or impassioned provocation. Such would be the case, today! Except maybe my focus elsewhere, has led to the feeling that I want to revisit this portal of mine. I'm missing my blog. And, it only took three paragraph's to get in touch with that!
I suppose it can also be expanded to resolve any potential shared missing of the blog. If I'm missing it and rectify that for myself.. any whom drop by here and are curious; as to the current machinations spun from my writing desk, they will thereby soon be satiated.
The book and the blog represent different shades of the same commitment. The journaling/activity that compromised the raw material for the book took place over five years ago. The book project then in some way, shape or form has been a presence in my life ever since. Along the way, the book has given way to the blog and vice versa. Life in it's various permutations has provided both inspiration and distractions. Maybe at some place in the future I'm more rigidly held to guidelines, deadlines even a specified subject matter; so far the development of my passion for writing has been afforded liberation from all of it. As such, it can be said I'm "write on" schedule!
My writing journey (which is largely synonymous) with my life journey, continues to take place while I'm currently in Ireland. The country itself represents to me a vast array of inspirational presence. The impact of this for me is experienced on all imaginable levels of my being and likely those I haven't begun to realize.
Even the similarity of "blogging" while sitting in the coffee shop ends about there. After all I have day-dreamed a plenty while sitting around coffee shops in Victoria; often times about how or even if, was I going to get back to Ireland. I got here! I'm still here! I go to sleep here! I wake up, and I'm still here!
Appreciate that I have lived in Victoria my entire life. As such, I don't have to be constantly on the move while here, to be living a vastly different experience. Just the other day, within the same day, I'm transported to a beautiful little seaside town for lunch and then to an ancient cultural/spiritual sites and back to where I began, in time for dinner!
To sit and reflect on that which has been allowed to occur in my life, that which I'm still right smack in the midst of; my heart swells with appreciation and the recognition of the grace I'm blessed with.
If there was ever any dissonance between my written expression proclaiming the joy and satisfaction of following one's heart and making dreams come true and that which was reflected in my life..... I fully intend to lay that firmly and completely to rest.
I don't wish to down play anyone with regard to what their current life circumstances are and what might be involved to change that situation. I know full well there are people living in situations that I can't begin to really understand... having lived nothing of the sort. The bottom line is, it's not a competition therefore I'm not going to minimize, categorize or dismiss, my own life journey either.
I think it worth saying, elements of what I'm describing in my current reality are fairly far-removed from any that have comprised my life previously. The prospect of having and writing to a blog, ongoing online correspondence with an editor that is helping me develop and prepare to publish (in some form) a book; all while being in Ireland is amazing to me and often, surreal.
While it might occur to be this grand and exotic life (and actually it is) it is by no means unattainable for others. My point is, it all represents an example of what is possible. Dreams can and do come true. Of course there are innumerable variables along the way. I have no way of knowing the future regarding any of what I'm currently living... but I'm squeezing it for all it's worth now. And if I can do it so can anyone. At no time do I wish to present myself as being special. Through the example, guidance, inspiration of others that are pushing their dreams and visions into the world; I am daring to take baby steps in the directions of some of my own. It doesn't mean the end of challenge, it doesn't guarantee immediate success (or any success) - but it is demonstrating to me far more is possible than I would have believed at other places in my life.
It doesn't end for me at just the realization of that! Which is not a statement of minimisation of the power of believing in more being possible. It's that my dreams include, the supporting of others to live their dreams into being. Especially those that had resigned themselves to believing nothing further was possible for them.
My own experience and witnessing those of others has me deeply convinced of the power and potential held within each person. Whether for better or worse; I held that I couldn't possibly represent any of this as being true for anyone else; if it were not tangibly operating in my own life.
Will my current reality give rise to a meteoric "rags to riches" story? I wouldn't know. While I acknowledge those for whom such a story is their life experience indeed have a story to tell; it's not necessarily the entirety of what I personally value or define as "successful." While there are obviously economic realities to be considered; I would encourage that each, define success for themselves, from the inside out.
The beautiful thing about this inside/out perspective is that nothing that is going on in my life need appeal, to anyone else but me! I'm not asking or suggesting that anyone follow in my footsteps. Then I would feel a need to be accountable for your destination. And there'd certainly be no assurance you'd like where you ended up. Define your own path, then you can decide where you go next if your not satisfied with the view from your current vantage point.
Perhaps ironic, perhaps not in the least, the book I'm working on features a labyrinth. The inception of that journey came as a result of following my heart. The further development, a passion and penchant for writing. It seems to me the heart itself is a most extraordinary labyrinth. When it's path is superimposed upon a life and becomes both the guiding influence; as well as creator of the path that manifests; there's no telling where it will lead. The collective experiences to date inform me, it will be anything but dull!
