Call Waiting

How often
Will I be asked
To answer
The call
To open my heart
To Love

Until
A lasting armistice
Is declared
And my arsenals
Disarmed

When I can
Adore
With open arms
Those embraced
Free to alight
Upon the next breath

When I can
Forgive mysel
And others
Until realizing
There’s
Nothing to forgive

When the success
Of others
Is
As satisfying
As my own

When I’m at
Peace
Knowing I reside
On no “A” list
Anywhere
And an
Unmarked grave
Can still signify
A life
Well-lived

If I have
To ask
I will still
Receive rhe call
