Friendship

They’re there to listen when things go wrong
To wipe a tear or rejoice in song
With a friend no doubt – whether you belong
Even stars shine brighter when they’re along

Though one of many on the crowded street
It can feel very lonely - quite incomplete
When a smile or eye contact - seems a daunting feat
It’s like the hearth of home - when your friend you meet

Never do they need to condescend
In their company never need pretend
No one better with whom - your time to spend
A precious gift is your dear friend

Through thick & thin you can depend
Piled thick and deep you think I can’t contend
When merited – themselves, they will extend
When they thought of angels were they thinking friend?

Should a rift appear – always quick to mend
If need be your honour they would defend
Though each for themselves - is often the trend
On the higher road you’ll find your friend

Before they can set in - blues they will suspend
When you’re in the pits they’ll point the way to ascend
Presence unconditional – love without end
God’s greatest gift – comes through your friend
